Social Networking

Welcome! I've started this blog to spread the word to other network marketers about the "new" web, and what it means to us in terms of marketing our products or business opportunities. My biz happens to be an online travel and entertainment booking service, but the information I'll be posting here will be valuable to everyone following the relationship-based business model.

Let's start with this: What is Web 2.0? Here's some of what I found from a quick Google search...

Web 2.0 is the term being used to describe the new internet technologies that have gained prominence over the past few years. This includes weblogs (blogs), wikis, podcasts, RSS feeds, social bookmarking and networking websites, and more. The key feature is interactivity, meaning people communicating with people; thus "social networking."

Take a look at Time Magazine's Special, 50 Best Websites 2007 and you'll find examples of next-generation sites like del.icio.us, digg, facebook, and youtube. Like Google, these are rapidly becoming household names, and there are dozens more. You might also check out my lens on Squidoo (another web 2.0 invention).

If you're over the age of 30 like me, you didn't grow up with the web; but let me tell you, it is the place to be marketing your business, especially if your business is in the network marketing sector. An entire web-savvy generation occupies this space. It's worldwide, 24/7/365, and it's growing at a phenomenal rate.

If you're really looking for an education on this subject, I highly recommend joining me at Renegade University. Mike Klingler at MarketingMerge.com has developed a training and mentoring program that uses Ann Sieg's very popular ebook, The Renegade Network Marketer, as a get-you-started coursebook. As a Renegade U. Professional member I'm receiving step-by-step webcast video and webinar instruction on how to use web 2.0 applications and integrate them into a coordinated marketing strategy. It's very exciting!
